Tips & Accessories
Lesson
Here are some of Grill U’s time-tested tips from our grill masters.
Always preheat your barbecue.
This is true whether you have a charcoal, wood, gas, or even an instant-on electric or gas grill.
Preheat times
Charcoal briquettes: up to 45 minutes
Lump charcoal: about 30 minutes
Raw wood logs: about 30 minutes
Instant-on gas and electric grills: about 15 minutes
Use the right equipment!
Don’t use tiny kitchen tongs, table forks, or cloth potholders when you barbecue. Using the proper tools will help you have a safe and enjoyable barbecue.
Here are a few items we suggest using:
- Instant read digital meat thermometer
- Long tongs with rubber grips and clamshell jaws
- Long barbecue spatula
- Heat-resistant silicone basting brush with a shield that prevents sauce from dripping onto your hands
- A chimney grill starter if you have a charcoal grill
- Barbecue gloves or silicone potholders
- A good set of stainless steel kabob skewers
- Top quality brass grill-cleaning brush
- 17 inch meat turning hook
